Our Mission

Inspired by the philosopher Diotima of Mantinea from Plato's Republic, The Diotiman Society is rooted in her philosophy.  Diotima advocated for embracing love as a powerful force and using it to expand our collective wisdom and knowledge.  This aligns with our primary objective of fostering discourse and knowledge about Classics among teenagers.

Using an online platform and conducting bi-monthly, student-led reading groups focused on translating texts, we strive to make the field of Classics easily accessible for teens.  Additionally, in our readings, we make a deliberate effort to highlight perspectives from historically marginalized groups.  This initiative is designed to foster a more diverse and nuanced discussion of the Classics, ultimately contributing to greater equality in academic discourse.
